Managing Anxiety in Autistic Kids and Supporting them to Worry Less
This course is for the parents, childcare providers and practitioners who want to increase their understanding of autistic children and improve their ability to support these children.
Anxiety greatly impacts a child’s health and overall well-being. All children may display these behaviours related to anxiety but autistic children may do so more frequently or with greater intensity. Learning how anxiety presents in autistic children is a great step to identifying anxiety triggers and creating support.
Topics Include:
• What is anxiety and what does it look like in autistic kids
• Differentiating between tantrums and meltdowns
• Your role in energy and emotional regulation
• Structuring the day for calm
• Strategies to help the child with in-the-moment challenges and to build resilience.
Course length: 2 hours
